The "things" we choose to care about? Makes "caring" a bad thing. If you always care about what people might think of you, then you're going to change yourself just to satisfy them.
them. If you're always caring that you might be falling behind in life, then you're going to focus on other people's success and just be frustrated.
Choosing not to care about some parts of life can make you comfortable with yourself. If you stop caring about what people might think of you, you'll be comfortable being yourself in public. If you stop caring about other people's success, then you'll be much more comfortable with your shortcomings and discover what else you can offer instead.
Let me share with you a quote that I had read from this book:
"The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, accepting one's negative experience is itself a positive experience."
If you always want a more positive experience, that "wanting" will lead you to notice more flaws about ourself, leading to a negative experience in the end. But if you accept all the flaws about you and all the negative events in your life, then you're going to be comfortable with yourself, which leads to a positive experience.
It's natural to care, but if you always choose to care about trivial things in life, then you're only going to hurt yourself. Instead, choose to care about what's really important in life, like family, friends, pursuing your dream job, all of that.
