To Me in 2025

Nov 07, 2024 Aug 06, 2025

Dear Future Me,
When you open this letter, you're probably sitting at your desk in the university dorm, right? There might be the first snowflakes of 2025 floating outside the window, just like the scene outside my window at this moment. Please pause your literature reading for a moment and listen to the little whispers from me in 2024.

It's 9 PM on October 17th, and I've just finished studying in the library. There's a wrapper from this morning's tuna sandwich tucked in my physics workbook on the desk – yes, I forgot to eat lunch again. Days during the A - level sprint period are always like this. Coffee stains  strange maps on my notes, and there's a mint that Lily gave me in my biology textbook, which she said could refresh my mind.

Do you remember the drama festival in March? When our group performed Macbeth in the auditorium, during those 30 seconds when you, as Lady Macbeth, forgot your lines, the whole audience was so quiet that you could hear Tom snickering backstage. But the impromptu lines you came up with later were even used as an example by the drama teacher. You still blush when thinking about it now, don't you? And the sports day in June, you reluctantly joined the 800 - meter run to earn points for the class, and finally, Sarah dragged you across the finish line. Has the scratch on your knee left a scar by now?

The anxiety during the application season is probably the heaviest baggage of this year. In January, when staying up late revising the PS, you cried in front of the computer screen until 3 AM. In March, when you received the interview notification, you jumped for joy in the kitchen and kicked the cabinet door. On the day you got the offer in April, you hugged Mom and spun around three times, knocking over her newly bought vase. Are these fragmented moments that make up 2024 more vivid than you imagined?

You should have adapted to college life by now, right? Do you still, like in high school, always can't find the classroom for the first class? Remember to go to the window seat on the third floor of the library more often. The sunshine there is exactly the same as in our high school library. Also, stop having instant noodles for dinner. Try to learn to cook the tomato pasta that Mom taught us, keep milk in the fridge, and don't drink so many carbonated drinks.

By the way, promise me to keep the habit of running in the park on weekends, just like we do now – running three laps around the school playground with Max every Saturday morning. Besides, don't tough it out when you encounter difficulties. Call Lily; she's always the best listener.

The me in 2024 still has a lot of confusion, but I believe you have found part of the answer. No matter whether life now is as expected or not, please remember: the girl who gritted her teeth and persisted for her dreams in the late night will always be proud of you.

Looking forward to meeting you in the future.

You in 2024

Late night of October 17th
